One of the Greatest Small Art Museums in New York City

Built in the early 1900s, this museum was once a residential mansion occupied by Henry Clay Frick. 6 galleries within the mansion display art collected by Frick during his lifetime and acquired by his daughter after his death. The mansion is now home to a collection of paintings by major European artists alongside antique furniture, oriental rugs, and a collection of sculpture and porcelain art.

Visitors to this New York City art museum can see art by the greatest European and American artists including Rembrandt, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, James McNeill Whistler, and Giovanni Bellini. The Frick Collection is open Thursday through Sunday. General admission is $18 - children under 10 years old are not admitted to the museum.

The Guggenheim

A New York City Landmark

Officially known as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (to set it apart from the other Guggenheim museums in Europe and Asia),  this museum houses a world renowned collection of art. The building was designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright and is one of New York City's most recognizable landmarks. Visitors to the museum will walk up the gently spiraling levels inside the museum to view the artwork displayed on the walls and in exhibition spaces that branch off the main walkway.

Along with special exhibits and installation art that change regularly, this New York City art museum has a large permanent collection which it exhibits in rotation. The pieces include works by such artists as Cezanne, Dali, Picasso, Van Gogh, Pissarro and Gauguin. The Guggenheim is open year round all week except for Thursdays.
