Astoria Sports Complex

Astoria Sports Complex

Astoria is one of those special areas of New York, which is tucked inside of a borough; in this case, Queens
Historically known as Astoria Village, the area was named after John Astor, who, in the 1850’s, agreed to invest money into the area in exchange for having his name placed on the village.

The area does have claim to some celebrity: Scott Joplin, king of ragtime and Frank Costello, well-known mobster, are both buried in Astoria. The T.V. shows, All In The Family, Cosby, and Seinfeld, have all had scenes from the sit-coms filmed in Astoria. In recent years, the area has become home to cozy bars and various art and music events.
