Kykuit: The Rockefeller Estate

Visit the Estate of one of New York's Most Famous Families

Kykuit, the home of  oil tycoon and philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, was built in 1913 over several years. This six-story mansion is an overwhelming historic home to visit in Upstate New York, from the amazing architecture throughout the building, to the extensive art collections to the gorgeous sprawling grounds. Several types of tours are available of the  house ranging anywhere from one and a half to three hours long. Visitors can see the richly furnished rooms of the house, the terraced gardens and beautiful grounds, the coach barn and the underground art galleries of Nelson Rockefeller which include works by Picasso. Truly an unforgettable place to visit - this mansion is open from Wednesday through Monday, May to November.

Susan B. Anthony House

Home of a Famous Suffragette

High on the list of interesting historic homes in upstate NY is the former home of women's rights activist and suffragette Susan B. Anthony. Site of her famed arrest in 1872, it was in this house's parlor that Anthony stood defiant after having voted in the political election. The current house museum is dedicated to sharing Anthony's lifelong struggle with those who visit by displaying artifacts from her life and telling her story through the exhibits in the house. 

 

The visitors' center and museum shop are located next door where you can buy a one-of-a-kind souvenir or memento of your visit. If you have a group visiting why not try the Lunch and Tour, which includes an elegant lunch in the Carriage House after your guided tour. Open Tuesday through Sunday for tours and events.
