Military Base, Nature Trails and Beautiful Beaches!

Spend an adventurous afternoon exploring through the abandoned military buildings of Fort Tilden. This defense point for the harbor, was established in 1917  and later decommissioned in the 1970s. This military installation has since fallen into the overgrown disrepair of many of the former military sites that line the harbor entrance.

Several areas of the fort are listed in the National Register of Historic places - history lovers won't want to miss exploring the huge  cement casement of one of the largest land cannons of the time - the 16" bore. A fascinating place among Queens NY historical sites, this is a fun trip for all ages.
